Apple Squares with Cinnamon

Ingredients

  • 4 large 
    Apples
  • 2 cup 
    Sugar, granulated
  • 1 tbls 
    Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 cup 
    Canned Applesauce
  • 2 tsp 
    Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp 
    Table Salt
  • 2 large 
    Fresh White Egg
  • 2 tbls 
    Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp 
    Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cup 
    Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, bleached
  • 1 tbls 
    Cinnamon

Directions

1. Set oven to 350 degrees.

2. Lightly grease a pan and set aside until ready to use.

3. Peel and coarsely chop the apples.

4. In the bowl of an electric mixer beat the egg whites for 30 seconds. Add the lemon juice, maple syrup, and vanilla, and beat for one more minute. Stir in the applesauce.

5. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

6. Fold the apples into the batter and mix with the dry ingredients.

7. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes, or until the center springs back when gently pressed.

8. Remove from the oven and set on a wire rack to cool.

9. Slice into squares and cover with foil until ready to serve.
